Hawthorn recruit Chad Wingard is unlikely to play in round 1 after suffering an injury setback.
Wingard has been suffering a calf injury that has flared up further, putting his Hawks debut in doubt.
“Unfortunately, it is unlikely Chad will be fit for Round 1 against Adelaide,” Hawthorn’s GM of Football Graham Wright told the club website.
“Chad had put a strong block of training in before this setback.
“He has been incredibly dedicated since arriving at the club and we are sure he will apply this same level of commitment throughout this next stage of his recovery.”
Wingard was traded to Hawthorn from Port Adelaide in the off-season, along with a 2019 third round pick, whilst Ryan Burton, pick 15, pick 35 and the Western Bulldogs 2019 fourth round pick went back the the other way.
