Injured Port Adelaide star Charlie Dixon has opened up on the severity of his leg injury, saying his doctors have "never seen anything like (it)".

"THEY SAID THEY'D NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS":

Dixon has been sidelined since round 21 last season, breaking his leg against West Coast.

He recently underwent another procedure on his ankle, pushing back what is still an unlikely return date.

Dixon joined Triple M's Rush Hour with Jars and Louie and said he wasn't sure when he was likely to return, saying it's a "day by day" prognosis.

"I'm just going to wait until I'm pain free and I can get back into it," he told Triple M.

"It's been a bit frustrating."
