Bystanders have helped save a little boy from floodwaters in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The child was pulled from the water at a spot on Illinbah Rd, Illinbah near Springbrook around 6:10pm on Sunday night.

Witnesses performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived.

He was taken by ambulance to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
