Sydney could be in for a cool evening, with a burst of cold air on the way across Australia's south east this afternoon.

This could see some thunderstorms and rain, with temperatures set to dip dramatically in Sydney - despite yesterday's balmy 32C weather.

Forecasts have said temperatures will stay around the 26C mark in Sydney today, before a colder turn around 5pm this afternoon.

This is expected to result in rain over the city, with chances of thunderstorms.

Winds will stay around the 25km/h to 40km/h mark.

On Wednesday, it will be 14C-21C and partly cloudy, with the temperatures to stay around this mark for the rest of the week before some showers on Sunday.
