Melbourne midfielder Christian Salem has signed a new deal with the Demons, tying him to the club until the end of 2021.

The 23-year-old, who was out of contract at the end of the season, has signed a two-year contract extension.

Salem said he couldn't see himself not re-signing with Melbourne.

“It got done pretty quickly,” he told Melbourne Media.

“I probably wasn’t too fussed about it, as I knew it was going to happen eventually – it was just a matter of when.

“But it was good to get it done before the season.”

Salem has become an important fixture in Melbourne's midfield and backline, playing all but one game last season and averaging 21 disposals, five score involvements and five intercept possessions a game.
