It'll be slow going for another few weeks for drivers crawling into Newcastle along City Road in the morning peak.
The RMS says road and drainage improvements taking place between Alice Street and Glebe Road are continuing, with one lane to remain closed until mid-February.
A reduced speed limit of 40km/h also remains in place.
Work is being carried out between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends.
Motorists are being told to consider using Scenic Drive or Brunker Road to get into Newcastle.
The work is expected to be completed by May, weather permitting.
The RMS has thanked motorists "for their patience during this time."
