Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight has ruled out running as a candidate in the March 23 State Election.

Rumours have been circulating for months that she would run, however Cr Knight confirmed to Triple M on Thursday morning that she won't be.

The Coffs Harbour Mayor told Moffee that she had been asked by many including the Deputy Prime Minister, but it wasn't the role for her.

"To go into an arena where I don't feel I would be comfortable in, or that I could achieve the goals, I think we need someone in there that can actually really push hard, we need someone strong and to be honest, that's not me", Cr Knight said.

While the Mayor won't be contesting the seat, fellow councillor Sally Townley will be standing as an Independent candidate, while John Arkan confirmed on Wednesday to Triple M that he is considering running.
