Police have charged a woman after she was allegedly caught driving her car while more than five times the legal limit in Coffs Harbour.

About 6:30pm on Wednesday evening, a 50 year old woman was driving her Toyota Starlet south along the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour.

At the intersection of Beryl Street, the Toyota allegedly collided with the rear of a HiAce van that was stationary at a red traffic light.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles and, after exchanging details, the driver of the van contacted police.

Officers from Coffs Clarence Police District attended the scene and the driver of the Starlet was breath tested which allegedly provided a positive reading.

She was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where she provided an alleged breath analysis reading of 0.252.

She was charged with high-range drink diving and is due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 4 February 2019.

Her licence was suspended.
