Collingwood assistant coach Scott Burns will leave for Hawthorn at the end of the season, according to Triple M's Damian Barrett.

The midfield coach is out of contract at the end of the year, and Barrett said on the Friday Huddle he will move on.

“(He) will be going to Hawthorn next year," he said.

“That will be officially ratified after the round 23 game that Collingwood plays tomorrow at the MCG against Melbourne."

It follows the decision making to be made around Collingwood's football department, as the club goes under review.

Barrett said the Buckley decision will likely come soon after.

"The first of the assistant coaches' futures being sorted out (at Collingwood) that we know of. There'll be other changes," he said.

“Obviously the big question around Nathan Buckley will be dealt with earlier in the week."

Burns joined the Pies again in 2014 on a three-year deal to take charge of the club's midfield.

He started his coaching career as an assistant at West Coast, under then coach John Worsfold, and sought out the club's senior gig at the end of 2013 before he was beaten to the position by current coach Adam Simpson.

He is a member of Collingwood's hall of fame, being inducted in 2012 after a 265-game career.
