Strong winds are set to hit Sydney this afternoon, after another hot day across the city.
Temperatures were already at 32C in the city at 11am and, at 2.35pm, Penrith became the first Sydney suburb to officially hit 40C - which means the breeze will be a welcome change.
However, things are supposed to get rather windy with the gusty southerly change expected to move through the Illawarra, Sydney and Central Coast areas late this afternoon and into the early evening.
The winds will hit a 55km/h to 65km/h average, with 90km/h gusts to develop.
The SES has advised that people should move their vehicles away from trees, secure items around their backyard and stay away from any fallen power lines.
