A gaggle of the beloved geese that live on the Coomera River are being removed from the area.

Gold Coast City Council announced it would relocate approximately 50 of the geese, as well as some non-native ducks, claiming the population around Water Hen Park in Oxenford was getting out of control.

The birds will be de-sexed and moved to Logan Agricultural High School and a farm at Bilambil.

However the move has caused some outrage from residents on social media.

Users have taken to Facebook to claim the geese had lived there for decades and should be left alone.
