All eyes on Seacrest

Crowds are flocking in to Hobart for the biannual Wooden Boat Festival.

While new ships are sailing in every day, a group of visiting Dutch students have spent the last two months building Seacrest, a traditional style boat, to be showcased at the festival this weekend.

The six students and their instructor, all from the Netherlands, have built the Dutch style boat from scratch with celery top pine, sourced from the Pieman River, on Tasmania’s West Coast.

The proud students have been working day and night to perfect the 16 foot craft, which will go to auction on Sunday afternoon.

The local boating fraternity say they hope Seacrest is sold to a local, so she can stay on Tassie waters.
