A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being involved in an accident when he did not return home.
Teenager Samuel Lethbridge was pinned behind the dash of his car for over 30 hours in an off road accident and he spent the night in the wilderness.
Instinctively, his father hired a helicopter to search for his son on his usual routes home.
An accident happened (at the same Crangan Bay embankment) about five years ago or something like that and it stuck in my mind,” Mr Lethbridge said, reports perthnow.com.au.
“And I thought I can’t leave him out there without looking.
The car was eventually found 20m down a bank off the Pacific Highway at Crangan Bay, south of Newcastle.
First responders prepared for the worst and were surprised to find Samuel’s head move.
Conscious throughout the whole 30 hours, Mr Lethbridge was flown to John Hunter Hospital where he underwent surgery for multiple fractures, including a broken arm, leg and spinal injuries, as well as dehydration.
He still remains in a serious condition.
