Damian Barrett believes Collingwood's Jack Ginnivan is "being umpired differently" to the rest of the competition.

Ginnivan has been under the microscope for the way he wins head-high free kicks - 17 of the 26 free kicks he has won this year have been for high contact, the most in the competition.

But Barrett believes the umpires have gone too far the other way.

"You don't like to say this, but he's being umpired differently to every other player, I feel," he explained on Triple M's Rush Hour.

"He's not getting the free kicks he should get...there's clearly an awareness which is subconscious, I think, in the opponents (and) the way they tackle him, but also the umpires, they just see him there."
