Damian Barrett has suggested Essendon's Nick Hind is "in the conversation" as recruit of the year halfway through the 2021 season.

Hind, who effectively replaced Adam Saad in the Bombers' outfit in a swap of fourth-round picks with St Kilda, has starred this year, averaging 23 disposals, 474 metres gained and is currently ranked fourth in the league in running bounces.

"Hind, what about his run and carry from the backline? He's been a great pickup," he said.

Barrett suggested it could go further than that on Triple M's Rush Hour.

"He's not just a good Essendon story, he's a good competition story," he explained

"He has to be in the conversation for recruit of the year, with all the other big names that we would have thought were vying for that, including (Jeremy Cameron) down at your club - who's still going very nicely by the way.

"I think he's in the conversation."
