Daniel Ricciardo Really Really Loves His Car

Foreplay? Or Forward Thinking?

Fresh from finishing third in the Belgian Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo may have got a little carried away in the post-race press conference.

The Aussie was explaining why he's able to finish his races while team-mate Max Verstappen suffered his 3rd retirement in 6 races - this time with an engine problem.

On each of those occasions Ricciardo's gone on to finish the race, and this time was no different, sharing the podium with winner Lewis Hamilton and runner-up Sebastian Vettel.

So how does he get his Red Bull to the chequered flag when the young Dutchman in an identical car cannot?

"I do a lot of things with my driving style which is very nice to the car," said the Aussie.

Ricciardo could've stopped there, but went on to explain.

"I actually talk to it a lot during the race. I massage it."

"I wouldn't call it foreplay but it's something like that and Max is young, he's aggressive, he goes straight in!"

Now if you started reading here you might think Daniel was talking about something else altogether.

But back to Daniel.

"I know you're shaking your head but I feel like you knew the answer would be something silly like that."

Putting aside the foreplay, the Red Bull engineers have examined the driving styles of their two drivers in a bid to eliminate plain old bad luck for young Max.

According to Daniel, they're still scratching their heads.

"They said no, there’s nothing he’s doing. He’s not over-revving it or anything silly.”

After getting too close for comfort in Hungary, the team-mates look to have have got on with things going by this video released before the race in Belgium.
