Delays Could Continue As Train Network Recovers From This Morning's Disruptions

Sydney Trains CEO Howard Collins has spoken following a disastrous start to the week for commuters, saying that delays are still occurring early this afternoon as officials work to get services back on time.

The whole train network came to a halt before peak hour this morning, with urgent signal repairs needed between Strathfield and Ashfield.

Speaking to the media this afternoon, Mr Collins said that things should be a bit smoother for this afternoon.

"It cut out all the signalling, set all of the fire alarms off and cut power to a number of stations between Ashfield and Strathfield.

"We spent some time trying to make sure that was safe, and then put the power back on and gradually reset all the fuses. That took some time.

"Services are now recovering to all destinations. We are seeing those services build for the evening peak and we hope - barring a few cancellations - to see services running to time this evening.

"There will be delays and I would recommend customers to check before you travel - particularly with the double-whammy they have with the airport delays and our delays this morning.

"Please just check before you travel around the network and use our usual apps."
