 Melbourne’s number 53 pick in last year’s draft will likely sit out his first season at the club after rupturing his right ACL on Friday at training.

Aaron Nietschke, who grew up in country South Australia, was raising many eyebrows at the Demons before he went down at a closed session in Casey on Friday morning.

The former SANFL Under-18s league best and fairest winner will meet with a surgeon today to discuss surgery and recovery timetables.

“The most likely option being that he will miss the year,” Demons football manager Josh Mahoney told Melbourne Media.

“As a club we will ensure we put the best support around him during the rehab process.”

The Demons will take on Collingwood in a practise match at Olympic Park Oval this Friday at 10am.
