Police have issued a reminder that double demerits will be in place this evening from 12.01am in the lead up to the Easter long weekend.
Drivers now risk losing six demerit points for not having a seatbelt on, and eight points for using a mobile.
Almost 100 people have died on NSW roads this year, and police are taking a hardline approach to speeding and drink driving as a result this long weekend.
Double demerits will be in place from just after midnight tonight until 11.59pm on Monday.
Extra police will be on patrol.
“Driving is a privilege not a right and motorists, passengers and pedestrians need to be accountable for the decisions they make that impact other road users," NSW Police Force Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn said.
