Drivers Have Say On Proposed GC600 Shake-Up

A number of Supercars stars have voiced their support for a potential shake-up to the Vodaphone Gold Coast 600 from 2019.

The Supercars Commission were reportedly meeting this week to discuss potentially cutting the two 300km sprint races in favour of one 500km race on the Sunday from next year.

Gold Coast-based driver Fabian Coulthard was open to the idea.

"This race is a tough race doing 300 kilometres on a Saturday and 300 kilometres on a Sunday", said Coulthard.

"But reducing one of those 300 kay races and making it one 500 kay is still going to make it a tough race.

"There's less surfboards to be won if they go to that format, but I think it'll be good, spice it up."

Fellow Gold Coaster James Courtney, who was preparing for his 400th career race on Saturday, believed the commission will do what is best for the fans.

"I think it's a great idea what Supercars do in listening to the fan base and constantly evolving the show to keep the fans interested," said Courtney.

"I'm sure if that's what they think is the best thing for us as a championship to do then we'll have it next year."

Race 26 of the championship kicks off from 2.25pm on Saturday October 20.
