A Mount Gambier man will face court on traffic and behavioral offences after he was arrested at Penola over the weekend.

Just after 8pm on Saturday 27 April, police saw a blue Holden sedan travelling on Riddoch Highway, just south of Penola.  Police will allege they saw the sedan overtake another vehicle on the highway when it was not safe to do so.

Police stopped the vehicle and submitted the driver to a breath test.  The driver was taken to the Penola Police Station for further testing where it will be alleged he behaved in a disorderly manner.

The driver, a 55-year-old man from Mount Gambier, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.144.  He was arrested and charged with disorderly behavior, assault police, drink driving and overtaking when not safe to do so.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he was issued with an instant 12 month loss of licence.  He was granted bail and will appear before the Mount Gambier Magistrate Court on 4 June.
