Just as we hit the road for the Easter break, petrol prices in Sydney have surged.

The average price for a litre of unleaded is now at $1.34, after prices jumped 20 cents over the last week.

The NRMA has urged motorists to shop around after finding a 38 cent price gap between the cheapest (Caltex Croydon) and most expensive service stations.

Spokesperson Peter Khoury said people are risking being overcharged.

“Prices have hit hard before Easter but there are still bargains to be found with a number of service stations in Sydney on or below $1.10 – so the key is to shop around,” Mr Khoury said.

The NRMA also also encouraged drivers not to reconsider reaching for the premium pump, unless specific by your vehicle manufacturer.

“Current profit margins for premium grade fuels are high and getting higher and the NRMA is concerned that too many motorists are buying these more expensive fuels thinking they are getting value for money and better performance, when often they’re not,” Mr Khoury said.
