On the day after Australia’s longest-serving Labor prime minister Bob Hawke died, Eddie McGuire has shared a story about bumping into him at a pub many years ago.
“I was lucky enough I did have a couple of cold beers with Hawkey,” Ed said.
“There was one time at Becko after the races, it was after Derby Day.
“We were just standing there… and in comes Bob Hawke, and he stood on the other side of the bar.”
Naturally, Bob was quickly the centre of attention.
“Suddenly he’s in the middle of everything, he’s taking photos, he’s having a drink, the girls are all hanging around him.
“He had a charisma about him, he just drew people to him, and of course he had a rapier mind and a rapier wit.”
The Hot Breakfast’s audio producer, DC, put together a brilliant montage tribute to Bob Hawke for the show this morning.
