Emergency Victoria has issued an emergency warning for multiple bushfires that are out of control in Bunyip State Park, east of Melbourne, with authorities urging it is too late to leave.

The warning for Bunyip North, Cornucopia, Garfield, Garfield North, Gembrook, Maryknoll, Nar Nar Goon North, Tonimbuk, Tynong and Tynong North relates to multiple bushfires that are unpredictable and spreading in many directions.

Emergency Victoria has urged residents they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.

The safest option is to take shelter indoors immediately, as it is too late to leave.

The Princes Freeway has also been closed in both directions between Nar Nar Goon Interchange and the Princess Highway at Drouin as of 11:39 am, with drivers urged to take the South Gippsland Highway.

The fire is threatening homes and lives, with over 25 CFA and 15 FFMV trucks working the fire.

A relief centre is open at the Pakenham Hall on the corner of John St and Henry St.
