With a stack of Central Coast folks headed Newcastle way this weekend for the Coates Hire Newcastle 500, we've put together some handy tips for getting there!
WHEN SHOULD I GET THERE?
The venue opens at 7:45am Friday and 7:15am both days of the weekend, with racing action on all three days from around 8am for the die-hards.
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GET THERE?
Nearly 100 extra trains and over 300 extra buses will run across the 3 days, the easiest way to get to and from the first ever Coates Hire Newcastle 500 will be by public transport.
Your pre-purchased event tickets include travel to and from Newcastle on public transport, even if you’re travelling from the Coast or Sydney.
The closest station to the circuit is Newcastle Interchange. At the station, change for shuttle buses which will be running regularly from the bus terminal on Stewart Avenue to the Honeysuckle Drive bus precinct. Shuttle buses will run between 6am and 11pm and are scheduled to meet each train. Access to the main Gate 1 entrance is a 1.1km walk along the waterfront on Wharf Road from the Honeysuckle bus precinct.
Return services back to Newcastle Interchange will leave from the Honeysuckle Drive bus precinct. Please keep in mind all services will be in high demand, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, so consider walking as well.
The other way from the Interchange is a 2.5km walk to the site, with shops and stalls along the way.
WHEN'S THE LAST TRAIN HOME?
The last train home from Newcastle Interchange on Friday is 11:32pm, Saturday is 12:35am, Sunday is 11:40pm.
CAN I DRIVE THERE?
It's strongly recommended you don't, but if you're going to, there's a few suggestions to make it easier. The first is to drive a bit of the way - and park at commuter carparks like Wyong, Morisset and Fassifern train stations and continue the remainder of the journey up to Newcastle by train. If you're keen to drive further, then instead of travelling directly into Newcastle, you should travel to McDonald Jones (Hunter) Stadium at Broadmeadow via Newcastle Link Road, Newcastle Road and Griffiths Road to utilise the Park & Ride service into Newcastle East instead. Most of the CBD will be shut to cars. For a full list of road closures, tap here.
WHAT'S THE WEATHER FORECAST?
Pretty good! It'll be mostly sunny and 25 on Friday & Saturday, and a bit cooler with maybe a late shower on Sunday.
