The Prime Minister is putting together an $8 million business case for a super fast rail, that would halve the commute from the Gold Coast to Brisbane.

Scott Morrison was expected to announce five fast rail business cases across the country on Friday.

McPherson MP Karen Andrews said if the project in the South East goes ahead it would drastically slash travel times.

"Fast rail is anticipated to cut commute time from 74 minutes to 32 minutes and it will get motorists off the M1," she said.

Ms Andrews was also pleased the business study would look at extending the heavy rail down to the Coolangatta Airport as well.

"The most southern station in Queensland now is Varsity Lakes; that means there is a significant amount of the Gold Coast that doesn't have access to heavy rail," she said.

"The money is there, it's available and we're ready to hit the button now and get started on the business case".
