Forest Fire Management Victoria will be out and about Central Victoria over the next week conducting fuel reduction burns as part of their Spring Burnoff Program.

Their schedule is as follows:

Thursday 11 October:

Jones Road, Redcastle Greytown State Forest - 108 hectares, 1.5km south-east of Rushworth
Mosquito Track - 24 hectares, 4.5km south east of Maryborough township

Friday 12 October:

Station Lane - 132 hectares, 9.7km west south west of Maryborough township
Inglewood Reservoir - 34 hectares 2km north of Inglewood township (if conditions are suitable)

Saturday 13 October

Derby Road - 20 hectares, 2.5km south west of Maryborough township (Saturday 13 October)

FFMV Murray Goldfields district manager Paul Bates says they're looking at conducting further burnoffs in Heathcote and Bendigo as well before fire season.

"Forest Fire Management Victoria work with the Bureau of Meteorology and will only do planned burns when conditions such as humidity, temperature and wind speed are right.

“We ask that if people see smoke and are concerned, they ring the VicEmergency Hotline, not triple zero. It is important triple zero is only used in case of an emergency.

“We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern for some people, but it’s important we take the opportunity while conditions are right, so we can reduce bushfire risk for communities.”

People experiencing symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure should seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24.
