Good Friday or Great Friday?

Let's make one thing clear: We're not here to get into "Nanny State" this and "can't you go one day without a beer" that.

Because the fact of the matter is that laws around alcohol sales in NSW on Good Friday can make enjoying the long weekend just that little bit trickier to navigate if you're that way inclined.

The story goes that licensed venues can only serve from midday to 10pm, and there's absolutely no takeaway alcohol to be sold at all.

Or is there? There's one small loophole, in that venues with a producer's licence - as in a brewery, for example - may still sell alcohol to takeaway.

Which leads us neatly to the point: Where in Sydney you can enjoy a frosty froth this Good Friday.

Wayward Brewing Co.

If Good Friday isn't the perfect opportunity to try a craft beer or two then when is? Venture down the pointy end of Parramatta Road to Wayward Brewing Co., which is a) dog-friendly and b) promising four brand new beers across the long weekend. There's usually some sort of epic food situation too, whether it's a pop-up truck or Wayward's own amazing chefs.

Wayward Brewing Co., Annandale. Open Good Friday from midday to 10pm.

The Bavarian

What would we do without The Bavarian? The German chain is promising an "Egg-citing Easter" at most of its locations, including The Bavarian Penrith and Castle Hill. From 11am, you can get your hands on Cinnamon Doughnut-Pretzels with hot chocolate dipping sauce and, for the weekend that's in it, their Schnapps will be served in chocolate eggs. Check your local for more details.

The Bavarians, various locations. Open Good Friday from 11am.

The Beresford

Not just a haunt for the young and youthful, The Beresford is one of quite a few Merivale venues that'll be open on Good Friday. Head into the city for lunch at the Surry Hills location, or just prop yourself up at the bar with a beer and a snack. Or if The Beresford isn't really your thing, check out the Vic on the Park, El Loco at Excelsior or Coogee Pavilion.

The Beresford, Surry Hills. Open Good Friday from midday to 10pm.

Alex & Co.

The Parramatta bar and restaurant is throwing open its doors from 11.30am daily across the Easter weekend, with a special drinks menu offering $10 spritzes and cocktails, plus $25 cocktail jugs. You can also grab $10 pizzas from Friday on, and, if you're keen to kick on, DJ sets and live music from 6pm.

Alex & Co., Parramatta. Open Good Friday from 11.30am.

Lone Pine Tavern

Putting the good into Good Friday, Lone Pine Tavern are holding a happy hour from midday to 6pm on Friday as well as honouring their usual 30 per cent off dinners deal. PLUS, they'll be showing the Bulldogs V Rabbitohs game from 4pm and then Storm V Roosters later in the evening in the Sports Bar AKA the only entertainment you'll need all day.

Lone Pine Tavern, Rooty Hill. Open Good Friday from midday.
