Ben Amarfio, the general manager of Southern Cross Austereo Melbourne during the infamous fried rice incident, has given a brilliant and hilarious account of what it was like in the commentary box during the stoush between Jason Dunstall and Stephen Quartermain.

Amarfio was in the box on the day and joined Triple M's Hot Breakfast 10 years on with an incredible recollection of being in the box and trying to deal with the aftermath.

"We were left with no host, because he was hosting, and Hamish was trying to host," he recalled.

"I was surprised, but I was more surprised that Jason was throwing away food! I've never seen him throw away food before!"

His story about trying to talk to Quarters - who wanted an apology - out the back of the commentary box had the team in stitiches.

"I've gone out there, and I was trying to keep a straight face because I look at him and he's got this beautiful gelled hair, and he would have had 13 pieces of rice wedged in his hair!" he laughed.

"He was really upset! He was indignant and he's (telling me) how upset he was, and I'm trying to keep a straight face and all I can look at are these pieces of rice in his hair!"
