Gargantuan Cocaine Haul Dumped Off Tweed In Dramatic Boat Chase
Two Men Arrested Off Byron Bay
Two men have been arrested after allegedly dumping 600kg of cocaine overboard during a sea chase off the northern New South Wales coastline.
Border force and defence patrols spotted the men's vessel heading towards the mainland on Wednesday.
When authorities sent a boat to intercept it, the men allegedly dumped the illegal drugs overboard and attempted to flee.
They were caught about 70km off Byron Bay.
Dru Anthony Baggaley (36) and Anthony Trevor Draper (53) were charged with possessing a commercial quantity of illegal drugs, after authorities fished the parcels of cocaine out of the sea.
They appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday, and were remanded in custody to reappear on August 20.
It's estimated the haul could have a street value worth in excess of $210 million.
