Celeb Chef George Calombaris has underpaid staff by 2.6 million due to a big bookkeeping stuff up.

162 of his current 430 full time staff at The Press Club, Gazi and Hellenic Republic are affected by the pay problem that’s been going on since 2011.

The accounting stuff up has been put down to the rapid growth of his high profile food empire, HR systems not being able to keep up and attention to detail not being  at a level it should have been.

George who is worth an estimated $7 million was notified about the pay discrepancies by the Fair Work Ombudsman back 2015, but the chaotic bookkeeping is only being addressed now.

In an email to his staff yesterday a devastated Calombaris said “You, our amazing team are the key to our success and I’m so sorry we have messed up and let you down on a fundamental, which is to ensure our people are paid what they are entitled to… Money will appear in bank accounts from this afternoon.”

The pay slip up resulted in some staff being overpaid and others underpaid. Calombaris is now working with the Fair Work Ombudsman to get the matter sorted.
