Gil McLachlan has explained to Triple M's Friday Huddle why Damian Barrett's exclusive report about Sam Murray's ASADA investigation had to briefly come down off the AFL website.

GIL EXPLAINS:

Barrett was first with the story about Murray's positive test for a banned substance after the round 19 clash with Richmond on Friday morning.

But the story had to come down off the AFL website temporarily before being posted once again.

McLachlan said it was simply to tick off a legal requirement with the AFL's general counsel, with AFL media being independent of the AFL.

"I got called by the general counsel early, who's very aware of our legal obligations under your arrangement with ASADA," he told Triple M.

"It had been legalled from a perspective of defamation and other stuff and it hadn't been quite legalled in the context of our arrangement with ASADA."

"I did wonder where it was!" Damo laughed.

"The story's up still, Browny."
