It has been revealed that the Gold Coast is on track to host up to nine sports at the 2032 Queensland Summer Olympics.
If Queensland were successful with their bid to host the Olympics, it would be likely that the Gold Coast would host race walking, the marathon, basketball, soccer, handball and golf. It was understood that surfing and hockey may also be on the cards for the city.
Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate, announced that he intended to ditch the Council of Mayors, the decision-making body that will decide the locations of the sports, to save ratepayer money and focus spending on planned improvements to the light rail.
The International Olympic Committee's executive board was set to hear the Future Host Commission's assessment of Queensland's pitch for the right to host the games on Thursday.
