The NRL confirmed this afternoon that an 18th player would be in use from round five after being approved by the ARLC however possibilities for clubs to use this to their own advantage are already appearing in the eyes of many.

Speaking on The Rush Hour Queenslander Gorden Tallis raised his concerns about the loopholes the rule will provide coaches should three failed HIAs appear or player on their team be affected by foul play.

“You watch, it’ll get rorted – In AFL it got it used, every coach used it in Round 1!”

On the eve of the AFL season the league introduced a similar ruling that saw coaches able to replace an injured player at any point in the game.
