The '80s produced two bona fide geniuses in Prince and Michael Jackson, turned the music video into an art-form thanks to the launch of MTV, and saw artists as diverse as Guns N' Roses and Madonna tearing up the charts.
It was also the decade when Australian music came of age, with bands like Men At Work, INXS and Midnight Oil achieving international success.
