GUTTED: Sally Pearson Talks Flowing Tears For Pulling Out Of Comm Games

Sally Pearson has squashed any talk of retirement after pulling out of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, claiming she's determined to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The champion hurdler found out two days ago she would be forced to stand aside from the 100m hurdles and women's relay team due to ongoing problems after an Achilles injury.

"Gutted, absolutely gutted," said Pearson.

"There were a lot of tears flowing, there were a lot of emotions ... going through the numb phase, then going through the crying phase."

However the Gold Coaster has promised to push for an Olympic berth in two years time, and her decision to pull out and rest may help her achieve that dream.

"I know I have a lot of fans who wanted to watch me race, but this is about my health and I want to go to Tokyo in 2020," she said.

"And possibly if I could've run who knows what could have happened."
