A Hampton man who crashed his car in an attempt to avoid hitting a Kangaroo that had bounded on the Hampton Road was found to be more than five times over the legal limit.

The driver sustained injuries in the incident last October and was taken to Toowoomba Hospital where police had a sample of blood tested, returning a result of 0.276 blood/alcohol concentration.

The 55-year-old man who represented himself in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court pleaded guilty to:

  • Driving under the influence of liquor

The court took into consideration that the man had no previous drink driving offence and that he had been without his licence for six months since the accident.

No conviction was recorded, he was fined $1200 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for a further nine months.
