The criticism for Cowboy’s enforcer Josh McGuire has been coming in thick and fast following a suspension for placing his hands on the face of David Fifita during the side’s loss to the Broncos on Thursday night.

McGuire entered an early guilty plea for a grade two contrary conduct charge – his third of a similar nature this season.

However, despite the torrent of online abuse from trolls, including death threats, those closest to him have come out in support. Following a public plea from McGuire’s wife on Instagram and another from McGuire’s mother, Dobbo has revealed on The Big Breakfast that he had received a text message from McGuire’s father defending his son.

“He’s hurting at the moment…he’s struggling with these charges” Dobbo told Marto, Robin and Nick Cody citing the text message.

McGuire, who only has vision in one eye after on-field accident years ago, has already been reprimanded twice this season for similar acts on Melbourne’s Cameron Munster and Manly’s Dylan Walker resulting in $3350 and $3400 fines respectively.
