Major trackwork is being carried out on the Hunter Valley rail network, with a number of lines affected for the next three days.

$20 million worth of projects are taking place from Tuesday, 6am to Thursday, 8pm.

It will impact the line from Newcastle Port to Narribri, with buses replacing trains between Hamilton and Scone.

The maintenance work will wrap up before vintage trains make tracks to Maitland's iconic Steamfest event on Saturday, to showcase the best of the former industrial era.
