If you tend to accrue more parking tickets than you'd care to admit, we have some good news for you.

As of today, NSW motorists will be given a 'grace period' when it comes to metered parking - meaning that there will be a little bit more leeway when it comes to running overtime on your parking space.

The change will see an additional 10-minute period added on, allowing drivers to get back to their car before they can be fined.

"People shouldn’t have their day ruined or their weekly budget compromised for a slight delay in returning to their car when they’ve shown intent to do the right thing," NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.

There are of course terms and conditions to the change, with the ticket needing to be for at least one hour's parking.

Also, it doesn't apply to private car parks or meters where there aren't tickets issued.

Bus lanes, clearways, transit lanes, mail zones or special event parking are also excluded.
