Higher Than Normal Tides Expected In Townsville Until Thursday
Low lying areas may be impacted
Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Jenny Hill said the king tide could be higher than any experienced in the past decade.
The tides will peak on Tuesday and Wednesday at around 4.15 metres.
“While the height of the tide can vary, it is expected to be a higher than usual tide which may impact low-lying areas such as South Townsville, Railway Estate, Hanran Street and Ogden Street.
“We encourage residents who may be impacted by salt water flooding to move valuables and cars to higher ground and observe any warnings.
“If you are driving around these areas, please remember to remain cautious and vigilant around flooded roads – if it’s flooded forget it.”
Council is asking residents to not place anymore flood-affected waste on the kerbside until after the king tides.
Residents who may be impacted can collect sand and sandbags from the carpark at Bicentennial Park, Queens Road.
