Popular coffee business Pilgrim Coffee on Argyle Street Hobart has been gutted by fire overnight.

At around 10:50 last night (Mon 06/08/18)Police a number of 000 calls were received reporting smoke coming from the windows from Pilgrim Coffee.

Tasmania Fire Service crews responded and on arrival found black smoke coming from the two story building at 48 Argyle Street.

Crews quickly located a number of people above Pilgrim Coffee which was being used for accommodation with twenty people evacuated from the 2nd story above the Coffee Shop.

Ambulance Tasmania attended and checked those that may have been affected by smoke inhalation.

There has been significant fire and smoke damage to Pilgrim Coffee and to the accommodation areas above the shop even though the main fire was contained to Pilgrim Coffee. Some surrounding businesses sustained smoke damage.

TasNetworks isolated power to the building while the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Police and fire investigators remain on site this morning at the business that was to celebrate seven years in Hobart's CBD
