The Barrington Tops have received their first dusting of snow for 2018, on the same night firefighters tackled a large bushfire at Fern Bay.

Snowchasers who made the trek to the Tops on Friday night were treated to a light dusting just before midnight.

About 5cm of snow fell around Polblue, however it melted once rain arrived in the morning.

Temperatures are expected to remainĀ in single digits until Tuesday, however the Bureau of Meteorology isn't forecasting any more snow.

Meantime, firefighters spent the chilly night responding to a bushfire that broke out in Taylor Road at Fern Bay at around 7pm.

Crews worked through the night to contain the blaze, which burnt out about 8 hectares of bush.

It's unclear what sparked the fire.
