Nations all over the world have gone into lock-down and the desire to stay connected to one another has never been stronger so it was only natural that market would open up for numerous apps to fill the void.

Video Conferencing App Houseparty has…umm... come to the party to provide a means of bridging the gap during the new age of ‘social isolation’.

The app, originally created in 2016 under a pseudonym, has been sitting at the top of Apple and Google’s most downloaded apps with the likes of Zoom and TikTok for the last few weeks with a host of celebrities using it and hyping it up on social media.

However, like any free app that requires permissions from your smartphone – (remember the ‘Age Challenge’ courtesy of FaceApp last year? That all came and went a little quickly didn’t it?) – you have to be a little suspect when weird stuff starts suddenly occurring.

Speaking on The Big Breakfast this morning, Margaux Parker brought to light that her phone had recently been bombarded by strange phone calls and scams since installing the app.

Houseparty last night responded to allegations that it had been hacked by tweeting the following statement to users offering a $1M bounty to anyone who can provide proof it has been hacked.

Look, we can’t categorically say that the two are related but at the same time probably just stick to Zoom – Unless you have relatives in the Seychelles.
