The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) has come down hard on female footballer Casey McElroy after she took the field for her local men's footy team.

Casey McElroy took the field for the Padthway Football Club men's reserves team over the weekend, helping the club field a team when numbers were sparse.

Unfortunately, McElroy was an unregistered player, and on top of her club receiving a $2000  by the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League, the SANFL has slapped a six-game ban on McElroy competing in the Limestone Coast Women's Football League season - which is only eight games long.

McElroy has also been banned from playing for Murray South East in the women's country championships in Port Pirie next month - and speaking on Roo & Ditts on Triple M Adelaide this morning, Mark Ricciuto has claimed the SANFL has "got this one completely wrong".
