The iconic image of New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Adern hugging a woman in the aftermath of the Christchurch mosque shootings will soon be immportalised on a Melbourne silo.

More than $11,000 has been raised for a street artist to paint the iconic image of the Kiwi PM wearing a hijab and hugging a woman on the Tinning St Silo.

The money will pay for a cherry picker and accomodation for artist Loretta Lizzio - paint and electrical equipment have also been promised. Any funds left over will go to victims of the massacre.

The silos were built in 1952 by a plaster manufacturer - the mural is planned to be finished by May 30.
