Triple M's Mark Ricciuto says the crackdown on crowd behaviour has to be "balanced" and "done right".

An increased security presence was noticed over the weekend of AFL action, with 'behavioural awareness officers' and more security seen throughout Marvel Stadium and walking up and down the aisles.

Riccituo believed there was an increase in crowd violence, fights and abuse, but warned that any crackdown has to be done right to avoid a pushback from the supporter base.

"It's an interesting one, this one, because I think every single person wants the crowd to be well behaved," he said.

"We're getting a lot of pushback from fans at the moment about the AFL or the stadium trying to crack down on crowd behaviour at the same time

"You sort of can't have your cake and eat it, but I guess it's got to be done right and it's got to be done balanced."

He was cautious over the look of the increased security presence.

"If that's happened (that someone was thrown out for barracking too loud), then that's a mistake," he said.

"It just looks like something's about to erupt."
