Following a career-best season Melksham has recommitted with the Demons until at least the end of 2022.
The medium forward was a crucial piece in Melbourne’s 2018 season which saw them reach their first preliminary final since 2000.
“Although we didn’t perform the way we wanted to (in the preliminary final), I feel like we’ve learned a lot of lessons from the season and from that game in particular to hopefully take it to the next level this year,” the former Bomber told Melbourne Media.
The 27-year-old is currently in the rehab group with a hamstring niggle, but expects to be firing for round one.
“Obviously not the ideal preparation that I would like but I’ve been doing a lot of running and fitness work to try to get up to the level,” Melksham said.
“So once I get back into the main group I’ll have a five or six week period before Round 1 to get ready.”
“I’m looking forward to getting out there with the boys – it’s been a long pre-season.”
