James Brayshaw Recalls Copping One Hilarious Sheffield Shield Sledge From Merv Hughes

A chat about James Brayshaw’s days in the Sheffield Shield and his first ever game led him down the path to recalling one of the finest sledges ever directed his way, thanks to Merv Hughes.

JB and Billy were trying to look up Jim’s stats for his first game - 36 and an impressive 60 not out in a three-wicket win batting at three - on Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“I think what you’ll find is a very, very accomplished performance!” he said.

“I don’t know why fast bowlers don’t like me. I’m a nice person.”

And, of course, one of the fast bowlers who notably didn’t like JB back then was Merv, who dished out one brute of a sledge his way that left Billy in stitches.
