James Pattinson's torrid run with injury has continued, with the quick ruled out of the remainder of the Big Bash League.

Pattison suffered a side strain at the Gabba on Thursday night, during the Heat's loss to the Renegades.

Coach Dan Vettori said it was most likely Pattinson would not be fit to return this tournament.

"We’ll monitor his recovery closely as he returns but the most likely scenario is that he will not be ready to play in time,’’ he said.

Pattinson has impressed since returning to cricket from another injury setback.

One of Australia's premier fast bowlers when fit, the 28-year-old has taken four wickets at an average of 28.75 in five matches for the Heat, as well as nine wickets at 33.11 in the Sheffield Shield.

Jack Prestwidge has come into the Heat squad, as has Marnus Labuschagne, with Ben Cutting retaining his spot despite five stitches in his nose.

Joe Burns has been cut from the 13-man squad.
